Container aquatic habitats host a community of aquatic insects, primarily mosquito larvae that browse on container surface microbial biofilm and filter-feed on microorganisms in the water column. We examined how the bacterial communities in these habitats respond to feeding by larvae of two container-dwelling mosquito species, Culex pipiens and Cx. restuans. We also investigated how the microbiota of these larvae is impacted by intra- and interspecific interactions. Microbial diversity and richness were significantly higher in water samples when mosquito larvae were present, and in Cx. restuans compared to Cx. pipiens larvae. Microbial communities of water samples clustered based on the presence or absence of mosquito larvae and were distinct from those of mosquito larvae. Culex pipiens and Cx. restuans larvae harbored distinct microbial communities when reared under intraspecific conditions and similar microbial communities when reared under interspecific conditions. These findings demonstrate that mosquito larvae play a major role in structuring the microbial communities in container habitats and that intra- and interspecific interactions in mosquito larvae may shape their microbiota. This has important ecological and public health implications since larvae of the two mosquito species are major occupants of container habitats while the adults are vectors of West Nile virus.

Background: Wagstaffe fracture constitutes an indirect injury to the AITFL and can precipitate syndesmotic instability. The prevailing fixation methods often involve the use of mini-screws or K-wires, with absorbable suture repair reserved for cases with small or comminuted fragments exhibiting instability. In this study, we devised a mini-plate fixation method capable of securing the fracture fragment irrespective of its size or condition. Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted on patients who underwent surgery for ankle fractures between May 2022 and October 2023. The surgical technique involved direct fixation of the Wagstaffe fracture using mini-plate fixation. Radiologic evaluation was performed using postoperative CT images, and clinical outcomes were assessed using the OMAS and VAS. Results: Fourteen patients with an average age of 62.5 years were included. Most fractures were associated with the supination-external rotation type. The average preoperative OMAS significantly improved from 5.95 to 83.57 postoperatively. The average VAS score decreased from 7.95 preoperatively to 0.19 postoperatively. Conclusions: The mini-plate technique for Wagstaffe fractures exhibited dependable fixation strength, effective fracture reduction, a minimal complication rate, and judicious surgical procedure duration.

This research delves into advancing an ultra-wideband (UWB) localization system through the integration of filtering technologies (moving average (MVG), Kalman filter (KF), extended Kalman filter (EKF)) with a low-pass filter (LPF). We investigated new approaches to enhance the precision and reduce noise of the current filtering methods-MVG, KF, and EKF. Using a TurtleBot robotic platform with a camera, our research thoroughly examines the UWB system in various trajectory situations (square, circular, and free paths with 2 m, 2.2 m, and 5 m distances). Particularly in the square path trajectory with the lowest root mean square error (RMSE) values (40.22 mm on the X axis, and 78.71 mm on the Y axis), the extended Kalman filter with low-pass filter (EKF + LPF) shows notable accuracy. This filter stands out among the others. Furthermore, we find that integrated method using LPF outperforms MVG, KF, and EKF consistently, reducing the mean absolute error (MAE) to 3.39% for square paths, 4.21% for circular paths, and 6.16% for free paths. This study highlights the effectiveness of EKF + LPF for accurate indoor localization for UWB systems.

The vectorial capacity of mosquitoes, which influences the dynamics of vector-borne disease transmission, is intricately linked to mosquito abundance and the composition and diversity of their associated microbiomes. However, the influence of environmental factors on mosquito populations and microbiome diversity remains underexplored. Here we examined the effects of seasonality and developed land cover on Culex mosquito abundance and bacterial diversity. Biweekly field sampling of female Culex mosquitoes was conducted using gravid and CDC light traps, spanning summer to autumn across varying developed land cover levels in two urban areas in Central Illinois. Mosquito abundance was assessed by the number of mosquitoes captured per trap night and compared across seasons and developed levels. The mean mosquito abundance for gravid and light traps was 12.96 ± 2.15 and 7.67 ± 1.44, respectively. Notably, higher levels of developed land cover exhibited higher Culex abundance than the low level for light traps, but no significant difference was found between summer and early autumn. In gravid traps, no significant differences were detected across seasons or developed levels. Microbial analysis of the mosquito microbiome revealed that Proteobacteria and Wolbachia, with a mean relative abundance of 80.77 and 52.66% respectively, were identified as the most dominant bacterial phylum and genus. Their relative abundance remained consistent across seasons and developed land cover levels, with negligible variations. Alpha diversity, as measured by observed species, Chao1, Shannon, and Simpson, showed slightly higher values in early-autumn compared to late-summer. A notable pattern of bacterial diversity, as indicated by all four diversity indexes, is evident across varying levels of land development. Significantly, high or intermediate developed levels consistently showed reduced alpha diversity when compared to the lower level. This underscores the pronounced impact of anthropogenic ecological disturbances in shaping mosquito microbiomes. Beta diversity analysis revealed no significant dissimilarities in bacterial community composition across seasons and developed levels, although some separation was noted among different levels of developed land cover. These findings highlight the significant role of environmental factors in shaping mosquito abundance and their associated microbiomes, with potential implications for the vectorial capacity in the transmission of vector-borne diseases.

Negative differential resistance (NDR), a phenomenon in which the current decreases when the applied voltage is increased, is attracting attention as a unique electrical property. Here, we propose a broad spectral photo/gate cotunable channel switching NDR (CS-NDR) device. The proposed CS-NDR device has superior linear gate-tunable NDR behavior and highly reproducible properties compared to the previously reported NDR devices, as the fundamental mechanism of the CS-NDR device is directly related to a charge transport channel switching by the linear increase of the applied drain voltage. We also experimentally demonstrate that the photoinduced NDR behavior of the CS-NDR device was derived from the grain boundaries of dinaphtho[2;3-b:2',3'-f]-thieno[3,2-b]thiophene. Furthermore, this work produces a 9 × 9 CS-NDR device array composed of 81 devices, providing the reproducibility and uniformity of the CS-NDR device. Finally, we successfully demonstrate the detection of text images with 81 CS-NDR devices using the proposed photo/gate cotunable NDR behavior.

A cochleate formulation was developed to enhance the oral bioavailability of revaprazan (RVP). Dimyristoyl phosphatidylcholine (DMPC) liposome containing dicetyl phosphate (DCP) successfully formed a cochleate after treatment with CaCl2, whereas that containing sodium deoxycholate did not. Cochleate was optimised using a D-optimal mixture design with three independent variables-DMPC (X1, 70.58 mol%), cholesterol (X2, 22.54 mol%), and DCP (X3, 6.88 mol%)-and three response variables: encapsulation efficiency (Y1, 76.92%), released amount of free fatty acid at 2 h (Y2, 39.82%), and released amount of RVP at 6 h (Y3, 73.72%). The desirability function was 0.616, showing an excellent agreement between the predicted and experimental values. The cylindrical morphology of the optimised cochleate was visualised, and laurdan spectroscopy confirmed the dehydrated membrane interface, showing an increased generalised polarisation value (approximately 0.5) over small unilamellar vesicle of RVP (RVP-SUV; approximately 0.1). The optimised cochleate showed greater resistance to pancreatic enzyme than RVP-SUV. RVP was released in a controlled manner, achieving approximately 94% release in 12 h. Following oral administration in rats, the optimised cochleate improved the relative bioavailability of RVP by approximately 274%, 255%, and 172% compared to RVP suspension, a physical mixture of RVP and the cochleate, and RVP-SUV, respectively. Thus, the optimised cochleate formulation might be a good candidate for the practical development of RVP.

BACKGROUNDS: This study aimed to compare the incidence of bile reflux, quality of life (QoL), and nutritional status among Billroth II (BII), Billroth II with Braun anastomosis (BII-B), and Roux-en-Y (RY) reconstruction after laparoscopic distal gastrectomy (LDG). MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed the prospective data of 397 patients from a multicentre database who underwent LDG for gastric cancer between 2018 and 2020 at 20 tertiary teaching hospitals in Korea. Postoperative endoscopic findings, QoL surveys using the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer questionnaire (C30 and STO22), and nutritional and surgical outcomes were compared among groups. RESULTS: In endoscopic findings, bile reflux was the lowest in the RY group ( n =67), followed by the BII-B ( n =183) and BII groups ( n =147) at 1 year (3.0 vs. 67.8 vs. 84.4%, all P <0.05). The anti-reflux capability of BII-B was statistically better than that of BII, but not as perfect as that of RY. From the perspective of QoL, BII-B was not inferior to RY, but better than BII reconstruction in causing fewer STO22 reflux symptoms at 6 and 12 months. However, only RY caused fewer C30 nausea symptoms than BII at 6 and 12 months, but not BII-B. Nutritional status and morbidities were similar among the three groups, and the operative time did not differ between the BII-B and RY groups. CONCLUSIONS: BII-B cannot substitute for RY in preventing bile reflux, shortening the operative time, or reducing morbidities. Regarding short-term QoL, BII-B was sufficient to reduce STO22 reflux symptoms but failed to reduce C30 nausea symptoms postoperatively.

Trampolines are recognized as a valuable tool in exercise and rehabilitation due to their unique properties like elasticity, rebound force, low-impact exercise, and enhancement of posture, balance, and cardiopulmonary function. To quantitatively assess the effects of trampoline exercises, it is essential to estimate factors such as stiffness, elements influencing jump dynamics, and user safety. Previous studies assessing trampoline characteristics had limitations in performing repetitive experiments at various locations on the trampoline. Therefore, this research introduces a robotic system equipped with foot-shaped jigs to evaluate trampoline stiffness and quantitatively measure exercise effects. This system, through automated, repetitive movements at various locations on the trampoline, accurately measures the elastic coefficient and vertical forces. The robot maneuvers based on the coordinates of the trampoline, as determined by its torque and position sensors. The force sensor measures data related to the force exerted, along with the vertical force data at X, Y, and Z coordinates. The model's accuracy was evaluated using linear regression based on Hooke's Law, with Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), and Correlation Coefficient Squared (R-squared) metrics. In the analysis including only the distance between X and the foot-shaped jigs, the average MAE, RMSE, and R-squared values were 17.9702, 21.7226, and 0.9840, respectively. Notably, expanding the model to include distances in X, Y, and between the foot-shaped jigs resulted in a decrease in MAE to 15.7347, RMSE to 18.8226, and an increase in R-squared to 0.9854. The integrated model, including distances in X, Y, and between the foot-shaped jigs, showed improved predictive capability with lower MAE and RMSE and higher R-squared, indicating its effectiveness in more accurately predicting trampoline dynamics, vital in fitness and rehabilitation fields.

This paper proposes fault diagnosis methods aimed at proactively preventing potential safety issues in robot systems, particularly human coexistence robots (HCRs) used in industrial environments. The data were collected from durability tests of the driving module for HCRs, gathering time-series vibration data until the module failed. In this study, to apply classification methods in the absence of post-failure data, the initial 50% of the collected data were designated as the normal section, and the data from the 10 h immediately preceding the failure were selected as the fault section. To generate additional data for the limited fault dataset, the Wasserstein generative adversarial networks with gradient penalty (WGAN-GP) model was utilized and residual connections were added to the generator to maintain the basic structure while preventing the loss of key features of the data. Considering that the performance of image encoding techniques varies depending on the dataset type, this study applied and compared five image encoding methods and four CNN models to facilitate the selection of the most suitable algorithm. The time-series data were converted into image data using image encoding techniques including recurrence plot, Gramian angular field, Markov transition field, spectrogram, and scalogram. These images were then applied to CNN models, including VGGNet, GoogleNet, ResNet, and DenseNet, to calculate the accuracy of fault diagnosis and compare the performance of each model. The experimental results demonstrated significant improvements in diagnostic accuracy when employing the WGAN-GP model to generate fault data, and among the image encoding techniques and convolutional neural network models, spectrogram and DenseNet exhibited superior performance, respectively.

Anterior dislocation of the coccyx is rare, but it can occur due to trauma. Conservative treatment is usually performed. However, dislocation reduction may be required to control severe pain in the acute phase or to prevent chronic complications. If manual reduction fails, open reduction is required. The extent of the incision and the method used to maintain the reduction should be considered during open reduction. A 56-year-old male patient experienced a dislocation of the sacrococcygeal joint after falling backwards. Despite conservative treatment, the patient complained of persistent pain during sitting and when using the bathroom. A manual reduction was attempted but failed. We performed joystick reduction via minimal incision and maintained the reduction using a one-strand trans-osseous suture passing through the skin. The patient was advised to use a soft cushion when sitting or lying down for four weeks after surgery. The supine position was not restricted. The patient's symptoms significantly improved after surgery. At the 6-month follow-up, the sacrococcygeal joint showed good alignment and no surgical complications occurred. During the treatment of sacrococcygeal dislocation, the rapid alleviation of acute pain and minimizing potential complications are key points. If open reduction is needed, the minimally invasive reduction technique with a one-strand trans-osseous suture may offer patient satisfaction and a good surgical outcome.

BACKGROUND: Estimating arbovirus transmission potential requires a mechanistic understanding of how environmental factors influence the expression of adult mosquito traits. While preimaginal exposure to environmental factors can have profound effects on adult traits, tracking and predicting these effects remains challenging. METHODS: Using Aedes albopictus and a structural equation modeling approach, we explored how larval nutrition and temperature jointly affect development rate and success, female body size, and whether these metrics capture carry-over effects on adult female longevity. Additionally, we investigated how larval diet and temperature affect the baseline expression of 10 immune genes. RESULTS: We found that larval development success was primarily determined by diet, while temperature and diet both affected development rate and female body size. Under a low larval diet, pupal wet weight and wing length both declined with increasing temperature. In contrast, responses of the two morphometric measures to rearing temperature diverged when females were provided higher larval nutrition, with pupal wet weight increasing and wing length decreasing at higher temperatures. Our analyses also revealed opposing relationships between adult female lifespan and the two morphometric measures, with wing length having a positive association with longevity and pupal weight a negative association. Larval diet indirectly affected adult longevity, and the time to pupation was negatively correlated with longevity. The expression of eight immune genes from the toll, JAK-STAT and Imd pathways was enhanced in mosquitoes with higher nutrition. CONCLUSIONS: Our results highlight deficiencies from using a single body size measure to capture carry-over effects on adult traits. Further studies of larval development rate under varying environmental conditions and its potential for tracking carry-over effects on vectorial capacity are warranted.

Diet-induced nutritional stress can influence pathogen transmission potential in mosquitoes by impacting life history traits, infection susceptibility, and immunity. To investigate these effects, we manipulate mosquito diets at larval and adult stages, creating two nutritional levels (low and normal), and expose adults to dengue virus (DENV). We observe that egg number is reduced by nutritional stress at both stages and viral exposure separately and jointly, while the likelihood of laying eggs is exclusively influenced by adult nutritional stress. Adult nutritional stress alone shortens survival, while any pairwise combination between both-stage stress and viral exposure have a synergistic effect. Additionally, adult nutritional stress increases susceptibility to DENV infection, while larval nutritional stress likely has a similar effect operating via smaller body size. Furthermore, adult nutritional stress negatively impacts viral titers in infected mosquitoes; however, some survive and show increased titers over time. The immune response to DENV infection is overall suppressed by larval and adult nutritional stress, with specific genes related to Toll, JAK-STAT, and Imd immune signaling pathways, and antimicrobial peptides being downregulated. Our findings underscore the importance of nutritional stress in shaping mosquito traits, infection outcomes, and immune responses, all of which impact the vectorial capacity for DENV transmission.

BACKGROUND: Preoperative (chemo)radiotherapy has been widely used as an effective treatment for locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC), leading to a significant reduction in pelvic recurrence rates. Because early administration of intensive chemotherapy for LARC has more advantages than adjuvant chemotherapy, total neoadjuvant therapy (TNT) has been introduced and evaluated to determine whether it can improve tumor response or treatment outcomes. This study aims to investigate whether short-course radiotherapy (SCRT) followed by intensive chemotherapy improves oncologic outcomes compared with traditional preoperative long-course chemoradiotherapy (CRT). METHODS: A multicenter randomized phase II trial involving 364 patients with LARC (cT3-4, cN+, or presence of extramural vascular invasion) will be conducted. Patients will be randomly assigned to the experimental or control arm at a ratio of 1:1. Participants in the experimental arm will receive SCRT (25 Gy in 5 fractions, daily) followed by four cycles of FOLFOX (oxaliplatin, 5-fluorouracil, and folinic acid) as a neoadjuvant treatment, and those in the control arm will receive conventional radiotherapy (45-50.4 Gy in 25-28 fractions, 5 times a week) concurrently with capecitabine or 5-fluorouracil. As a mandatory surgical procedure, total mesorectal excision will be performed 2-5 weeks from the last cycle of chemotherapy in the experimental arm and 6-8 weeks after the last day of radiotherapy in the control arm. The primary endpoint is 3-year disease-free survival, and the secondary endpoints are tumor response, overall survival, toxicities, quality of life, and cost-effectiveness. DISCUSSION: This is the first Korean randomized controlled study comparing SCRT-based TNT with traditional preoperative LC-CRT for LARC. The involvement of experienced colorectal surgeons ensures high-quality surgical resection. SCRT followed by FOLFOX chemotherapy is expected to improve disease-free survival compared with CRT, with potential advantages in tumor response, quality of life, and cost-effectiveness. TRIAL REGISTRATION: This trial is registered at Clinical Research Information under the identifier Service KCT0004874 on April 02, 2020, and at Clinicaltrial.gov under the identifier NCT05673772 on January 06, 2023.

Purpose: To evaluate the immune regulatory effect of human cord blood myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) in experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU) models. Methods: MDSCs (1 × 106) or PBS were injected into established C57BL/6 EAU mice via the subconjunctival route on days 0 and 7. The severity of intraocular inflammation was evaluated for up to 3 weeks. Tissue injury and inflammation were analyzed using immunolabelled staining, real-time PCR, and ELISA. In addition, immune cells in draining lymph nodes (LNs) were quantified using flow cytometry. Results: After 21 days, the clinical scores and histopathological grades of EAU were lower in the MDSCs group compared with the PBS group. Local administration of MDSCs suppressed the oxidative stress and the expression of TNF-α and IL-1ß in the retinal tissues. In addition, it inhibited the activation of pathogenic T helper 1 (Th1) and Th17 cells in draining LNs. MDSCs increased the frequency of CD25+ Foxp3+ regulatory T cells and the mRNA expression of IL-10, as an immune modulator. Conclusions: MDSCs suppressed inflammation and oxidative stress in the retina and inhibited pathogenic T cells in the LNs in EAU. Therefore, ocular administration of MDSCs has therapeutic potential for uveitis.

Blood group mismatch in veterinary medicine is a significant problem in blood transfusion, sometimes leading to severe transfusion reactions and even patient death. Blood groups vary from species to species and there are three known blood groups in cats: A, B and AB. While A-type cats are most common, there is a shortage of feline B-type blood groups in cats. By using methoxy polyethylene glycol (mPEG) to protect antigenic epitopes on red blood cells (RBCs), we aimed to find the optimal conditions for the production of feline universal RBCs. The surfaces of feline A-type RBCs were treated with mPEG at various molecular weights and concentrations. Agglutination tests showed that the coating of feline A-type RBCs with mPEG of 20 kDa and 2 mM blocked hemagglutination to feline anti-A alloantibodies over 8 h. While no differences in RBC size and shape between intact and mPEG-treated RBCs were seen, coating RBCs with mPEG inhibited the binding of feline anti-A alloantibodies. Furthermore, the mPEG-treated RBCs did not cause spontaneous hemolysis or osmotic fragility, compared to control RBCs. According to a monocyte monolayer assay, mPEG treatment significantly reduced feline anti-A antibody-mediated phagocystosis of RBCs. These results confirm the potential of using activated mPEG on feline A-type RBC to create universal erythrocytes for transfusion to B-type cats.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the current status of venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention in Korean patients with hip fractures. Materials and Methods: A survey using a questionnaire on the experiences and protocols of VTE prevention was conducted among 570 members of the Korean Hip Society. Results: A total of 97 surgeons responded, with a response rate of 17.0%. Of the 97 participants, 61.9% answered that they had encountered one or more cases of symptomatic VTE in the past year. Mechanical prophylaxis was applied most often (30.9%) until the point of ambulation in standard-risk patients and most often (34.0%) extended until discharge in high-risk patients. Chemical prophylaxis was most often prescribed for a particular period of time rather than for recovery of walking ability (24.7% in standard-risk patients and 26.8% in high-risk patients). Dual prophylaxis was administered in the standard-risk group by 58.8% of the participants and in the high-risk group by 83.5%. Among the participants, 73.2% answered that they had been attentive to wound complications during chemical prophylaxis. More than half of the participants (59.8%) reported that they did not perform routine screening for VTE after surgery. Conclusion: The results of our survey provided information regarding the current status of VTE prevention for patients undergoing surgery for treatment of hip fractures in Korea as well as a baseline for establishment of educational programs and guidelines in the future.

OBJECTIVE: Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is a neurological complication following clipping surgery. However, the natural course and ideal approach for the treatment of clipping-related-CSDH (CR-CSDH) have not been clearly established. We aimed to investigate the course of CR-CSDH using chronological radiological findings. METHODS: We performed a retrospective analysis of 28 (3.8%) patients who developed CSDH among 736 patients who underwent surgical clipping using pterional approach for unruptured aneurysms at our institution between December 2010 and December 2018. Patients underwent follow-up CT scan 6-8 weeks after clipping surgery and decision to pursue surgical intervention rests upon the patient's symptom based on the Markwalder's grading scale (MGS) and numeric rating scale (NRS). RESULTS: Of the 28 patients, 3 patients (10.7%) underwent surgery, while 25 (89.2%) showed spontaneous resolution of CR-CSDH. Eighteen patients (64.2%) had mild headache with MGS of 0-1. The mean maximum hematoma volume was 41.9±30.9 ml (5.8-135 ml), and 26 patients (92.8%) had homogeneous hematoma. The mean time to hematoma resolution was 126.7±52.9 days (46-228 days). Comparing group of CR-CSDH volume ≥43 ml or a midline shift ≥5 mm, the difference in presence of linear low-density area (p=0.002) and age (p=0.026) between the conservative and operative groups were found to be statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS: Most CR-CSDH cases spontaneously resolved within 4 months. Therefore, we suggest that close observation should be performed if patient's symptoms are mild and special radiologic findings are present, despite its relatively large volume and midline shifting.

BACKGROUND: The effect of fecal stream diversion on the gut microbiota is still uncertain. The present study was designed to assess the effect of fecal stream diversion on the composition of the gut microbiota in patients with colorectal cancer. We included patients undergoing left-sided colorectal cancer surgery with (ileostomy group) or without (control group) diverting ileostomy. Fecal samples were collected from 10 patients in each group before surgery (t1) and after ileostomy repair in the ileostomy group and 6-12 months after the initial surgery in the control group (t2). The fecal microbiota was assessed using 16S rRNA sequencing, and changes in the composition of the fecal microbiota were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Alpha diversity analysis revealed that the complexity of fecal microbiota decreased between t1 and t2 only in the ileostomy group. Beta diversity analysis also showed dissimilarity between t1 and t2 only in the ileostomy group. The composition of the microbiota was similar between the two groups at t1. However, at t2, the ileostomy group had lower proportion of beneficial bacteria (Lachnospiraceae, 3.8% vs. 29.9%, p < 0.001; Ruminococcaceae, 0.6% vs. 18.4%, p < 0.001; Blautia, 0.1% vs. 9.1%, p < 0.001; Faecalibacterium, 0.2% vs. 7.5%, p < 0.001) and a higher proportion of harmful bacteria (Proteobacteria, 17.9% vs. 5.1%, p = 0.006; Clostridium, 16.2% vs. 1.1%, p = 0.013; Streptococcus, 17.7% vs. 1.6%, p = 0.002) than the control group. CONCLUSIONS: Fecal stream diversion was closely associated with less diversity and dysbiosis of the gut microbiota.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of preoperative immunonutrition on the composition of fecal microbiota following a colon cancer surgery. MATERIALS/METHODS: This study was a secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial assessing the impact of preoperative immunonutrition on the postoperative outcomes of colon cancer surgery. Patients with primary colon cancer were enrolled and randomly assigned to receive additional preoperative immunonutrition or a normal diet alone. Oral nutritional supplementation (400 mL/day) with arginine and ω-3 fatty acids were administered to patients in the immunonutrition group for 7 days prior to surgery. Thirty-two fecal samples were collected from 16 patients in each group, and the composition of fecal microbiota was compared between the 2 groups. RESULTS: At the phylum level, no significant difference was observed in the composition of microbiota between the 2 groups (Firmicutes, 69.1% vs. 67.5%, P = 0.624; Bacteroidetes, 19.3% vs. 18.1%, P = 0.663; Actinobacteria, 6.7% vs. 10.6%, P = 0.080). The Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio (4.43 ± 2.32 vs. 4.55 ± 2.51, P = 0.897) was also similar between the 2 groups. At the genus level, the proportions of beneficial bacteria such as Faecalibacterium spp. (8.1% vs. 6.4%, P = 0.328) and Prevotella spp. (6.9% vs. 4.8%, P = 0.331) were higher, while that of Clostridium spp. was lower (0.5% vs. 1.2%, P = 0.121) in the immunonutrition group, but the difference was not significant. CONCLUSIONS: Immunonutrition showed no significant association with the composition of fecal microbiota. The relationship between immunonutrition and the fecal microbiota should be investigated further in large-scale studies.

The charge trap property of solution-processed zirconium acetylacetonate (ZAA) for solution-processed nonvolatile charge-trap memory (CTM) transistors is demonstrated. Increasing the annealing temperature of the ZAA from room temperature (RT) to 300°C in ambient, the carbon double bonds within the ZAA decreases. The RT-dried ZAA for the p-type organic-based CTM shows the widest threshold voltage shift (∆VTH ≈ 80 V), four distinct VTHs for a multi-bit memory operation and retained memory currents for 103 s with high memory on- and off-current ratio (IM,ON/IM,OFF ≈ 5Ⅹ104). The n-type oxide-based CTM (Ox-CTM) also shows a ∆VTH of 14 V and retained memory currents for 103 s with IM,ON/IM,OFF ≈ 104. The inability of the Ox-CTM to be electrically erasable is well explained with simulated electrical potential contour maps. It is deduced that, irrespective of the varied solution-processed semiconductor used, the RT-dried organic ZAA as CTL shows the best memory functionality in the fabricated CTMs. This implies that the high carbon double bonds in the low-temperature processed ZAA CTL are very useful for low-cost multi-bit CTMs in flexible electronics.
